It has been announced via Twitter today that singer and actress Demi Lovato will be continuing her hiatus into 2017. On her Twitter she wrote, “So excited for 2017. Taking a break from music and the spotlight.. I am not meant for this business and the media”. It seemed strange that she would announce such an impactful career decision only six hours after her controversial comments regarding Taylor Swift in an interview with America’s Glamour magazine.
In said interview, as I’m sure we all know by now, she called out Taylor Swift for, “tearing Katy Perry down” whilst promoting her hit single ‘Bad Blood’ last year. Of course, Taylor Swift’s fans became frenetic beasts when they caught wind of this and mercilessly attacked Demo Lovato online, forcing Lovato to defend herself against an onslaught of nasty messages.
When addressing her attackers she wrote, “I don’t understand why people care so much about what I say in interviews? Do y’all watch the news? Don’t y’all got s**t to worry about?”. Not the strongest rebuttal but then what can you do or possibly say to stop an army of fans from insulting you senselessly?
It is a shame whenever anyone has to step away from their career due to insulting behaviour from an outside party, but then what do you expect on the internet in the modern day? You have to be careful about what you say and who you say it to when it comes to the media, small bursts of honesty means nothing if it is to the detriment of your career and public image; I’m not saying she shouldn’t speak against her morals, I’m just saying she was way too blunt and showed no subtlety in her comments
