Run With It Interview (24/01/2016)

Run With It are a band that have really impressed us since we first found their social media over a month ago. Their fusion of pop, rock and funk really freshened up what we were listening to at the time with rhythmic expertise and some killer grooves. They managed to seamlessly flow from almost soulful areas into fully blown funk excellence from song to song keeping us gripped in throughout all their musical outings.

It’s been a long time personally since I have listened to a funk style band that has reminded me of the instant classic 70s goliath’s of old, but these guys seem to be hitting the nail on the head each time and have more than the potential to bring that movement back. Some spicy guitar progressions paired with some moog orientated sauce add to the gut busting bass supplied throughout each song. Vocally each song varies melodies greatly showing off a great range, a great tone and an all round great voice. The drums are nothing to sniff at either with an incredibly high production quality on their ‘The Weekend’ album and some neat and tidy drum sequences to boot. All this gives us the great pleasure of introducing you to our interview with Run With It! The Q&A went as below:

Q. What would you say your particular music style/repertoire is; how would you describe your music?

A. We are a high energy Pop / Rock / Funk band.  Our fans love sing great hooks and dance to great beats.  If you dig Imagine Dragons and The Killers your gonna feel right at home with us.

Q. Who are your biggest influences when making music and do you feel you take any aspects from their style and add it to your own?

A. Individually our creative influences are all across the board. We listen to everything from Lupe Fiasco / Michael Jackson / Imagine Dragon / The killers all the way to Dawes.    The fun part is making all those various influences fight it out and resolve their differences in our music as a band.

Q. What album/albums would you put up there as your favourite of all time?

A. Me personally (Miguel – lead singer) my all time favourite album currently is  really hard to say.  That typically ebbs and flows.  If talking albums of the past – I loved Throwing Copper from LIVE.  And Rush of Blood to the Head from Cold Play.  Current stuff – I just can’t stop listening to 21 Pilots over and over again.  His lyrics are beautiful.

Q. What is the favourite gig you have ever played? (Where, how did it go down?)

A. Playing for the College students at APCA Midwest in Coralville IA was a blast.  So many people dancing and snapping us back videos of the show.

Q. Have you got any big plans for the near future in the recording process or touring?

A. Last year we played about 70 shows and got out to the east coast.   For 2016 we looking to do roughly 150 shows and span the entire united states.  Needless to say that is super exciting. We also plan to start recording our next EP in late spring. A lot of new material on the way and we are pumped to have our new drummer on that recording.

Q. How did you acquire the name Run With It?

A. We were searching for name after name and never finding one we could agree on.  Someone always had a difference of opinion.  During the contact arguing of names I sent out a group text message with three names and said “now we have to pick one and run with it”.  Our bass player said, “how bout run with it?”  And then we discovered the first name we could agree on.

Q. What was the last song you listened to and would you recommend?

A. The last song I listened to today was Stressed Out by 21 Pilots.  I’d recommend listening to their whole album.  Dig into the lyrics and the great arrangements.

So there you have it! They are a solid group of lads with a great sound and we really recommend you get out there and start listening to their stuff… You won’t regret it! As always we implore you to send some love to their social media and add their music onto your daily playlists, the guys deserve as much exposure as possible!
